I have mixed feelings about my boy turning one. I love watching him grow and learn and develop. This is all part of the process, and is expected. However, he’s no longer a baby, he’s a toddler now. I’m a little saddened, but that’s why I can never have just one child, I miss having a baby.
For C1’s birthday we planned on spending it in Utah surrounded by family. The cost kept rising with every thing we needed; flight, hotel, car…we deemed it too expensive and changed out plans. We decided to invite some of Hubby’s school friends over for an adult dinner party centered around C1. They all love him and we had a great turnout to support our boy.
We started off by having some dinner. Chili and Mac and Cheese (homemade, never the box kind).
After a yummy meal we tried to get C1 to open his presents, but still doesn’t get it, so I did it and he played with the toys.
We saved dessert and smashing the cake till last.
This was my first time making a pull-a-part cake and I think it turned out pretty well. I then made a small cake just for C1. I like the pull-a-part cakes because it’s like having cupcakes, but I get to decorate like a cake. C1 dabbled into his cake and we had to put his fingers in his mouth before he realized what it was. The one time we want him to make a mess he doesn’t; every other time he does. We still enjoyed watching him with his first chocolate cake.
We also displayed about 40 balloons around the house (I LOVE balloons) as well as the monthly pictures we’ve been taking. I was fun to see how C1 has grown in the past year. He mostly just gets more hair.
