Lately holidays don’t seem to have as much meaning. However, Husband and I did go to a local park to see what was going on, only to find that there was a parade too! We arrived toward the end of the parade where dogs and their owners were walking, so we decided to join in the parade. Lucky for us, where we were was where the parade started. So we joined the other dogs and owners (we had Daisy with us) and walked around the square with the parade. This is me and Daisy getting a drink at the park.

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a parade where there were only a handful of spectators and cars still trying to get through the roads in the middle of the parade. It was still fun to be there and feel the community.

There wasn’t much at the park, so we didn’t stay long. We also wanted to see fireworks, but were too lazy (and we wanted to take Daisy) to go up to Navy Pier to see the show. So we went straight out from where we live to the lake, and watched the fireworks from 5 miles away. While we had a great view and were on the lake, it’s not the same as being able to feel the BOOM of the fireworks. So it was slightly uneventful, but at least we got out of the house.

  1. We did the same thing for the 4th. We wanted to have our dog with us, so we drove up high where we could see all the fireworks going on in the valley below. But you're right, it just isn't the same as sitting right beneath them and feeling the BOOM as they go off!
