Getting Closer

Standard

So, it has been a while since I (the husband) have posted here. I suppose I could take a mulligan, and say that I have been really busy, and that would be not false, but the real truth is, I also am kind of boring in what I have to say. Jenny has all of these neat things she does, with nice pictures and cool stories and I just study. And I don’t study fun things like rainbows, and unicorns. I study nuclear holocaust, and terrorist attacks. However, I am making some progress professionally, which does affect Jenny (who is the real reason you all read this blog, anyway).

Today I received notice that I am on the wait-list for the PhD program for the University of Chicago. Now while that may not sound like much, or it might even just be a nice way of saying ‘I didn’t get in’ it is actually better than that. I have to wait to see if I get the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship, for which I am a strong candidate. Even if I don’t get it this year, I am very happy to have gotten this far. I have applied to the University of Chicago 3 times in the last ten years, and every year I get closer to actual acceptance to the PhD program. Persistence can pay off!

Here’s to hoping I don’t have to apply a fourth time! And thanks for all your support.
